Our longevity in the community
In 1948 at the age of 18, Charles Norton started working in the optical field in Bristol Tennessee. He learned both the technical aspects of being an optician, as well as the craftsmanship of making glasses that only experience can provide.
The family focus
In 1965 Charles and his wife Betty made a decision to move the family to Fairfax Virginia to take advantage of an opportunity to open their own optical shop. The store in Fairfax was a success, however the calling to return to their home in the Tri-Cities was strong. Soon a decision was made to return to Bristol with their four children and open Tri-City Opticians.
All four children and wife Betty have become licensed opticians.
Today, the day-to-day operations in the Big Stone Gap location are handled by son Charlie Norton and the Bristol and Abingdon stores are under the direction of daughter Betsy Norton Rose. You can still find Charles Norton at one of the stores on almost a daily basis overseeing things and troubleshooting any challenges that may arise. If you do see Charles, take a moment and say hello.
Tri-City Opticians success and business longevity has come as a result of the dedication to excellence in product quality and customers service Charles Norton has instilled in his children.
